Convocation ceremony conducted in AMU

The Convocation ceremony has been commemorated in the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on November 1, 2016, which was held at Gulistan -e- Syed. Chief guest was Dr. Qaid Joher Ezzuddin, Guest of honour Prof. Takaaki Kajita Nobel Laureate 2015 in Physics, (Director, Institute for Cosmic Ray Research, University of Tokyo, Japan), Vice Chancellor Lt. General Zameer Uddin Shah and Pro VC Brigadier Syed Ahmad Ali.

The programme was conducted for the distribution of degrees to the Ph.D degree holders and other students from their respective courses. Out of 214 number of medals, 65% went to girls and the rest to boys who passed out UG and PG courses. Faculty of Social Science has the highest rank securing the 61 medals followed by Faculty of Arts, Faculty of science, Faculty of  Life Sciences, Faculty of  Commerce, Faculty of Management Studies & Research, faculty of Engg. & Technology, Faculty of  Law, Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of  Unani Medicine respectively. The President of India Dr. Shanker Dayal Sharma gold medal for over all best performance was given to Ms. Lata Udsaiya, PG. Dip. (Hydrogeology). Prominent student Ms. Hina Mukhtar achieved the maximum 5 number of medals including 4 gold medals. She belongs to Faculty of Unani Medicines. The Nobel laureate Prof. Takaaki Kajita was honoured to receive the degree of Doctorate of Science, from this great seat of learning and he gave an acceptance speech. The Annual Report was read by VC.

Delivering his Convocation address chief guest Dr. Ezzuddin said, The Aligarh Muslim University carries a big impression because of its glorious history embeded with many achievements. This institution setup by Sir Syed, is now one of the top most universities in India with several faculties and maintained institution. The University draws students from all over the world towards it. Today, we celebrate the success of the students who have graduated, to all of you I say congratulations and felicitations on completing one part of the journey of life and achieving one of your many dreams.
The first Convocation was held in AMU on December 28, 1922, which was presided over by the first Chancellor, Her Highness Sultan Jahan Begum, Ruler of Bhopal, who also delivered the Convocation Address. Sir Mohammad Shafi, who had succeeded Harcourt Butler as Education Member of the Viceroy’s Council, was the first recipient of the degree of D.Litt. honoris causa.
